Eldyn was born from a genuine passion for helping others succeed. With over 25 years in IT, our founder, Piotr Zielinski, has always been driven by a love of technology and the satisfaction of making it accessible. Technology can be daunting, and Piotr’s goal has always been to break down complexity, explaining things in a way that empowers clients to feel confident in their decisions.

This journey started long before Eldyn, on an Apple IIc with just 128 kilobytes of RAM. Working on that early system sparked an enduring fascination with technology, and even as systems have grown faster and more sophisticated, many of the seeds of modern innovation trace back to those formative experiences. Over the years, Piotr has seen the industry shift through countless phases — some positive, others challenging. One thing has remained clear: without a holistic approach, navigating IT becomes increasingly complex.

Resilience Through Change: Lessons from Y2K

In the late 1990s, the looming Y2K issue presented an urgent need for businesses to ensure their systems could handle the transition to the new millennium. At that time, I was part of a team tasked with a large-scale project to modernise legacy systems, specifically by replacing flat file-based databases with Oracle, and converting older COBOL code to the then-modern Visual Basic 5. The stakes were high—these systems were operational backbones, and any issues could disrupt essential functions. To make this transition, I learned COBOL from the ground up so I could understand, read, and rewrite a significant amount of operational code to fit the new platform’s requirements.

This project was more than a technical challenge; it was a lesson in adaptability and resilience. With each line of COBOL converted and each new Oracle database set up, we were not only solving an immediate problem but also building a more stable, future-ready foundation. Looking back, Y2K was a powerful reminder that robust IT solutions require not just technical skill but also foresight and flexibility. At Eldyn, we carry this lesson forward, designing systems that don’t just meet today’s standards but anticipate and adapt to the needs of tomorrow.
